A study in contrast

The weather has turned more unsettled of late which is much welcomed by yours truly, and I imagine by a fair number of farmers, since June was very dry, and is also the peak growing month for many crops. July so far has had a respectable amount of rain and the outlook is for the weather to stay unsettled, so all smiles in the rain-worshippers' tent.
The contrast referred to in the title occurred yesterday, when the south-east of England was frying in a heat wave of up to 30 C, while here in beautiful suburban Monifieth, the temperature topped out at 14 C, with the weather dull and damp to match. It was cold enough, in fact, that I had to put the heating on, while a mere 400 miles south the old and vulnerable were succumbing to heat stroke.
